Freedom in Toronto Parks

The human ecosystem is different than natures. Something I find fascinating is how parks, the wilderness are lawless in a cultural sense. Those trees don't care about who is elected in office, about what is legal and what's not. Trees cannot think, there are no manners or politeness in nature. Parks, the wilderness as a whole is a different ecosystem than human society with different implicit rules relevant to them. Ie littering, fires, etc. I love that.

All the same laws that apply in the city still apply in the parks, in addition to many more bylaws. New complicated bylaws in regards to littering or camping or fires, having a dog leashed. But people still exercise their own judgment, make their own decisions. The trees, rivers, rocks and moss have been their longer than these new bylaws and some will likely outlive them.

It is illegal to camp in Toronto parks and that is a shame. Past that point it is also a bad look to camp in Toronto parks as we do have a homeless epidemic.

I find peace in every trip I take outside into the many parks in Toronto. I am waxing philosophically here, but the one hope I have with the hive mind effects of social media and technology is that people are truly smarter now than ever before. There is less litter every passing year in the areas I frequent. More responsible people picking up glass. I find hope in nature.

Different people act differently in nature. Some people like to claim a space with their music and loud conversation. Other individuals may find a quiet nook to have an opportunity to actually breathe. Some people want to see as much of it as possible, running or biking past to cover as much ground as they can. This blog post is not about law, its about life.
